African Sports Across Disciplines Workshop
Sports offer a unique opportunity to examine diverse aspects of Africa and the African Diaspora. February 4-5, 2005 , Ohio University in conjunction with the Institute for African Child and the Sports Administration Program held a workshop, African Sports Across Disciplines, a forum to examine the social, political, and economic impact of sports on African societies and future developments.
The workshop built on the achievements of the first symposium, Youth, Sports and Africa , held in 2004. The presentations and debates addressed themes such as politics, economics, administration, management, gender, conflict resolution, health and wellness, communication, marketing, and promotion.
In order to promote the dissemination of information relating to sports and Africa , the organizers of the workshop published any significant outcomes from the workshop in Impumelelo: The Interdisciplinary Electronic Journal of African Sports and online abstracts summary of presentations by the presenters.
