Simon A. Akindes

Dr. Simon Adetona Akindes is Professor of Political Science and Director of International Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in the USA.
He is a consultant for the UNESCO Culture of Peace Program and for the Yamoussoukro School of Peace Initiative in Côte d’Ivoire. He also teaches in the PH.D program of West Africa Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use at the University of Lomé (Togo).
He founded Tous au Sport (USA and Benin), and Hulum Wede Sport (Sports for All, Ethiopia). Both organizations seek to promote and expand physical activity and sports, with a view of creating healthier, cleaner and happier communities. He also created a Foundation for girls’ education in Benin and participates in various other initiatives. Dr. Akindes, a former soccer international of Benin, still practices sports (tennis, table tennis, football) and is active in the gym.
He has delivered numerous presentations and published book chapters and articles on education, democratization, political and social movements in Africa, civil-military relations, popular music and sports.
